Ebenezer Gardner; mariner, married Sarah Bartholomew Nov. 7, 1681; she died Sept. 5, 1682; he died May 5, 1685; child I Bartholomew, born June 12; 1682; died Dec. 20, 1684. 30 The last will & testament of Ebenezer Gardner of Salem I being weak of body but of perfect memory & understanding doe dispose of my outward Estate as followeth Impr I give & bequeth unto my Sister Hathorne for her owne use & to be at her owne disposeall one hundred pound in money & all my household stuf except the pewter & linen which my wife brought with her: also I give unto the four Sons of my Sister Buttolph deceased one hundred pound in money Each an Equall Share to be paid them as they com of Age, & if aney of them die before that tyme ye others to have their legasie Equally between them also I give unto my Broth Henery Bartholomew & my Sister Swinerton & my Sister Willouby & the three Children of my Sister pilgrim deceased that house & ground which I had with my wife (Excepting the Salt march in the Southfield) to have Each, an Equal share & my Broth pilgrim Shall have power to make sale of his Childrens quarter part & to keepe the Efects in his hands until they come to Age: also I give unto my Sister Swinerton & unto my Sister Willowby my pewter & linin which my wife brought with her, to be Equally divided betwene them: also I give unto George Gardner son of my Brother Gardner my Acar of marsh at Strong water brook: also I give unto Nathanael Hathorne Son of my Sister Hathorne all my Salt marsh in the Southfield, which his father Shall have the use of until he Come of Age, also I give unto Ruth Gidney that ten pound in mony that I lent her father, that is now in her mothers hands: also I give unto Susanna Gardner daughter of my unckle Thomas Gardner ten pound in money & unto Margaret Gardner daughter of my unckle Samuel Gardner ten pound in money: also I give unto the poore honest people in Salem the some of fiftey pound in or as money to be distributed amongst them by my unckle Samuel Gardner my Brother Hathorne & my Brother Gardner according unto their discretion: and as for the Remainder of my Estate after all debts & legasies are paid I give the one third part of it unto the three Children of my Brother Gardner, George John & Hannah to Each an Equall Share to be paid them as they Come of Age, & if aney of them die before that tyme the others to Injoy their legasie Equally betwene them: & one third part of my Estate after, depts & legasies are paid as before Exprest I give unto the three children of my Sister Hathorne John Nathaniel & Ruth to Each an Equall share which their father may take into his hands provided he give Suffishant Security to pay them in money when they Come of age, otherwise to remaine in money in the hands of my Executor until that tyme & if aney of them died before they Come of age the others to have their legasie Equally between them: & as for the other third part of my Estate after all debts & legasies are paid as before I give it unto the three Children of my Sister Mary Turner Robert Habakkuk & Marey to Each an Equal Share to be paid them as they Come of age, & if aney of them die before that tyme the others to have their legasie Equally between them: also my will is that all my Estate Except the land & household Stuf given as before, be brought into money as soone as may be with Conveniancie & kept in money for the Children unto whome it is given, the Sons to be paid their legasies at twenty one years of Age: & the daughters to be paid their legasies at eighteen years of age or at the tyme of their mariage: and I doe Appoint my Brother Samuel Gardner to be my Executor of this my last will & testament in wittnes whereof & for Confirmation of the same I have hereunto Set my hand & Seale this third day of feberary one thousand Six hundred & Eighty four; Ebenezer Gardner.
