This carver shows signs of illiteracy which was common among early stone carvers. Notice the last letters of the word "Month" in Elizabeth Mould's inscription are combined into one symbol.

Writ: Thomas Mould of Salem v. Daniell Hichin of Lynn; for non-performance of his agreement with his apprentice in April, 1682, by which he promised to pay him 13li. and a mark within six months, and forty poles of fencing was to be set upon John Gillow's farm at Lyn, to be appraised as money; dated Nov. 20, 1684; signed by John Fuller, for the court and town of Lyn and served by John Neuwhall, constable of Lin. 35
