Mrs.
Sally
wife of Dr. Rufus Hills
died March 12, 1823 Æ 24
Take, mother earth, all that my soul holds dear
Take the best gift which Heaven lately gave
To Amesb'ry found I bore with trembling care
Her faded form she bound to haste the move
And died ??? youth, does beauty read the love
Do?? sympath?? in four(?) their brest alarms
Speak dead Sally, breathe a strain divine
E'en from the grave thou shalt have power to charm
Bid them be chaste, be ??? like thee,
Bid them in ??? sphere as meekly move
And if so fair from vanity as free.
As firm in friendship and as fond in love
Tell them tho ?? an awful thing to die,
Twas ??? to thee, not the dreadful ?? ??
Heaven lift its everlasting portals high
And lit the pure in heart behold
their GOD
