Haverhill Deaths: Codman, w. John and d. Capt. John and Dorcas Soley, Sept. 4, 1775 a. 51 y. g.r.1 60

After The Battle of Lexington and Concord on April 19, 1775, the retreating British entered Charlestown, causing the residents to flee. They wished to seize parts of Charlestown and fortify it against the Patriots. But the Patriots got there first, which led to the Battle of Breed's Hill (AKA Battle of Bunker Hill) when the British tried to retake the land. This was possibly the reason she was driven out "by the cruel hand of oppression". You can read an account of it here .
